Nigerian Trio Makes History at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

Ruth Usoro, Ese Brume, and Prestina Ochonogor have achieved a remarkable achievement by becoming the first trio from Nigeria to reach the Olympic finals in an Athletics sport.

Breaking records

This remarkable feat marks the first time since 1996 that Nigerian athletes have advanced to the women’s 400-meter final, it was previously achieved by Falilat Ogunkoya and Fatimat Yusuf in Atlanta.

Ese Brume Shines in the Olympics

Building on her impressive track record, which includes a bronze medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Ese Brume secured a commendable fifth place in the finals.
This event highlights several significant accomplishments: Brume's second consecutive appearance in the Olympic finals, the highest finish for a Nigerian athlete in this event at fifth place, and the historic achievement of three Nigerians reaching the Olympic final in an individual event. This is indeed a momentous occasion for Nigerian athletics.
